March 12, 1930 - Palo Alto Tribune - FATHER AND SON PASS AWAY WITHIN 4 DAYS - Zeigler Family Stricken By Double Grief. Father Buried Sunday. Son Buried Today.

(Contributed By Rev. Sunderlin) - On October 3, 1854 a little baby boy was born to William and Mary Phillips Zeigler. They lived in Livingston
county, near Streator, Illinois. Two sisters and a brother welcomed him, Barbara, Noah and Priscilla. He was privileged to welcome Jacob,
Susan, Martha, William and Rose.

As a child he was kind, honest and trustworthy. In these days of boyhood he felt the need of God and at the age of sixteen gave his life into
His care and keeping never through the years to retract the gift which he had made. He united with the Methodist Episcopal church at this time at Streator, Illinois, and on April 23, 1911 united with the First Methodist Episcopal church of this city remaining a faithful, true, loyal member to the day of his death.

On January 23, 1876 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary E. Klieber at Streator, Illinois. To this union one child, Arthur J. was born. On March 1, 1910 the family moved to Emmetsburg, where they have resided continuously. Mr. Zeigler was one of God's gentlemen. He loved God with a depth of devotion seldom found. He trusted Him even though he could not trace Him. His delight was to be in prayer, to read the Word of God, and to be in God's house. His life revealed the consumate faith of his soul. Charitable, kind, thoughtful, considerate were among the fruits of his life. Friends he made of all those with whom he came into contact. To his family he was their all and in all. His home was the garden where he gave his best.

For a number of years his health has been failing. With each year the struggle seemed harder. On March 6, 1930 just as God was pulling down his curtains of day in the western sky, He came and just as gently touched his eyes and the glories of the "Land that is fairer than day" broke forth upon the eyes of his soul. The family scarcely knew that God had come but as they looked they saw that the "Peace that passeth understanding," lighted his face with a new look of contentment and rest. We shall all miss him but we shall be better because he walked with us along the way.

Those who survive are the beloved wife, his son, Arthur, and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. B.E. Clay, Mrs. John Walters, Jacob Zeigler,
and Mrs. Susan Notman of Streator, Illinois, William of Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Rose Lucas, Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
