March 12, 1930 - Palo Alto Tribune - Arthur J. Zeigler was the only son of Frederick and Mary Kleiber Zeigler. He was born at Streator, Illinois, on March 31, 1878 and died at Emmetsburg, Iowa on March 10, 1930 at the age of 51 years, 11 months and 9 days.

He was united in marriage to Miss Etta T. Cox in October 1898 at Pontiac, Illinois. To this union ten children were born: Gladys, Alta, Lloyd, Lela, Claude, Glen, Kenneth, Avis, Ralph, and Fay. After his marriage the family lived on the farm in Illinois until the year 1910 when they moved to Emmetsburg, Iowa. They have resided on the farm northeast of this city continuously since that date.

He was a true child of Christian parents. He was kind, thoughtful, considerate, and possessed an unusual ambition and desire to achieve. He was always anxious to secure and to do the best. He early gave his heart and life to the leadership of Christ, uniting with the Methodist Episcopal church at Streator, Illinois. He was active in its program as a teacher in the Sunday school and was later made superintendent which position he filled with profit and with honor.

As a child he was true. He was a good husband and a loving and tender father. His friendship extended wherever he was known. He held to a plane of high idealism and was patient with the person who did not come to the same conclusions. He was good citizen and occupied positions of honor and trust. In his community he was chosen to head movements which were progressive. During the world war he was made a member of the Council of Defense and gave himself without reserve to what ever was ask and required.

Ten years ago he was taken sick with neuritis. Everything that love and skillful hands could do, was done. Slowly but surely the disease made headway. Last Monday at noon the angel of death came at noon and the soul returned to the God that gave it.

Those who remain are the beloved wife, his widowed mother, and his children.
