“John Leonard of Rodman, Dies”

“John A. Leonard, 68, of Rodman passed away at his home on Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon. He is survived by his widow and five children, Everett of Rodman, Ervin, Mrs. John Petticord and Miss Alene, all of Emmetsburg, and Mrs. Jesse Galloway of Mallard. We have not been supplied with further particulars before going to press.”

“John Leonard Rites”

Funeral services for John Leonard of Rodman, brief mention of whose death on July 26 was made in last week’s issue of the Reporter, were held in the Presbyterian church at Rodman Friday, with Rev. Rockwell of Plover officiationg. The remains were interred in Fern Valley cemetery. The pallbearers were Lester Van Horn, Lloyd McClelland, Jake Knoer, Henry Deroach, Tom McCormick and Jess Crook.

The deceased was born in Missouri, July 4, 1871. Thus he was 68 years of age at the time of death. He came to Rodman in 1897 and resided there until death. He was married at Rodman November 1, 1899, to Miss Gertrude Sloan, who survives. He is also survived by five children, as follows: Everett of Rodman, Ervin and Alene of Emmetsburg, Mrs. John Petticord of Ruthven and Mrs. Jess Galloway of Mallard. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, two brothers, Will of Adena, Colo., and Bert of Foxhard, Wis., and two sisters, Mrs. Geroge King of Santa Ana, Cal., and Mrs. Marshall Brant of Lincoln, Neb. Sincere sympathy is extended to those from whom he has been taken.

Those from out of town attending the funeral service included Mr. and Mrs. George Carter and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd McClelland of Cylinder, Mrs. Sadie Galloway of Curlew, Mrs. Cal Boster, Mrs. Elmer Hilderbrand and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hilderbrand, all of Emmetsburg, and John Fritz of West Bend.”
