“Mrs. Gertrude A. Dickerman”

“Mrs. Gertrude A. Dickerman, 81, died at 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon at her home in Taft. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o’clock Tuesday afternoon in the Methodist Church at Taft with the Rev. R. H. Heacock officiating. Interment will be in Taft Cemetery under direction of David T. Peel Funeral Home.

Survivors include the nieces, Mrs. Florence Robinson of Bloomington, Ind., Mrs. Ethel Hepler of Shiner, Texas, Mrs. Jessie Martin of California, Mrs. Ethel Blend of Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs. Carrie Cope of Ruthven, Iowa, Mrs. Minnie A. Phoenix, also of Ruthven, and several other nieces living in the North; and the nephews, Lloyd Williams of New York, N. Y., Charles H. A. Smith of Taft, Emery E. Smith of Fort Dodge, Iowa and Lee Richards of South Dakota.”

Gertrude Amanda (Richards) Dickerman was born October 27, 1856 in Richmond, Walworth County, Wisconsin to Jesse Chineth and Abigail "Abby" Jane (Humphrey) Richards, and departed this life on January 2, 1938 in Taft, Texas. Gertrude married George Lyman Dickerman on January 6, 1873 in Silver Lake, Iowa. George and Gertrude adopted Gertrude's niece Zada Alfaretta after her mother died in 1901. Zada lived with her aunt and uncle until she married Paul DeWitt Holmes in 1917. Gertrude was a faithful to her family. Her body was interred at Taft Memorial Park, Taft, Texas Space 5, Lot 41.
