John Doran Dead

John Doran who was a resident of this county for fifty-three years, died at his home in this city Friday night, August 23. He had been in poor health for many years and was very feeble. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. M. McNerney at St. Thomas church at 10 o'clock Monday morning.

The deceased was born in Deleware county, Ohio, on August 19, 1845. From there he went to Wilmington, Will county, Ill., in 1852. In 1864 he enlisted as a private in Co. G. 188th Regiment, Illinois Infantry, and served during the remainder of the war.

He came to Palo Alto county in October, 1865, and made his home here since that time. When coming here he located on a farm in Great Oak township where he resided until 1888 when he came to Emmetsburg. He never married but always made his home with his sister, Miss Maggie Doran, who is now the only surviving member of the family. Few in the county were of longer residence or better known than Mr. Doran. He was earnest, honest, upright and was very well read. He took an active interest in public affairs until late years when he became too feeble to be about very much. To the sister who survives him, we extend sincere sympathy.
