Emmetsburg Residents were pained to learn Saturday of the death of Miss Maggie Doran, aged resident of this community, who passed away at the Paul Schendel home in this city on that day. Miss Doran had been failing in health for some time. She had been making her home with Mr. and Mrs. Schendel during the past several months. The funeral was held Tuesday morning from the Assumption church, where the pastor, Very Rev. J. T. Finnegan celebrated a low requiem mass. Interment was in St. John's cemetery. The pall bearers were P. P. Nolan, Mike Conlon, Mike Conway, Dave Joynt, Thos. Conlon and Dan Burns.

The Democrat has found it difficult to obtain accurate particulars regarding the life of this deserving woman. However, we understand that she was about 82 years of age. Her mother, brothers Dan and John, and a baby sister, established a homestead in early days on what is now known as the W. L. Linderman farm which is tenanted by the B. L. Maguire family in Great Oak township. Miss Doran's mother passed away about 50 years ago. Dan was killed during an electrical storm while he was cultivating. This was nearly 46 years ago. The baby sister was adopted by the James Scott family, who later moved to Idaho. The deceased and her brother John finally sold their farm to Mr. Linderman and moved to Emmetsburg perhaps 35 years ago. They purchased a residence property here. Miss Doran's brother passed away in 1918.

News of the death of Maggie Doran will be received with genuine regret by the many residents of our city who have known her and esteemed her for her many truly Christian and womanly qualities. She was a lady of excellent character and she was loyal in her associations with the many with whom she came in contact. She was a sincere Christian woman.
