Four Little Orphans

Death of Mrs. P. Laughlin, on Thursday.

The death of Mrs. P. Laughlin, of this city, which occurred Thursday morning, though not unexpected, is generally and deeply lamented by our citizens. For several months she had been hopelessly ill, but she had great endurance and lingered for days and weeks. Tuesday afternoon it was reported that she was dead and, as the report was generally believed, a brief item to that effect, penned a few moments before going to press, found its way into the columns of this paper. The funeral services were held Friday morning. Her remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery, beside those of her husband, who died about four years ago. Four small children survive. The youngest is eight years old and the oldest twelve or thirteen. Mrs. Laughlin was thirty-four years of age.

The deceased lived in this county continuously since her childhood days and was in numerous ways identified with the early growth and development of the social circles of the county. Thirteen years ago she became the wife of Patrick Laughlin, mention of whose death has already been made. When he died she was left to provide for a small, helpless family. Though an invalid, her ambition and her energies were equal to her responsibilities. She planned and toiled that they might be kept above need, and she always managed to meet her obligations and to keep her treasured little ones comfortable until death crossed the threshold and robbed them of their maternal support. Although fatherless, motherless, and practically homeless, the needs of the little orphans will not be overlooked, as there are relatives of means, charity, and humanity to provide for them and give them that care, attention, and instruction which Providence, in his mysterious wisdom, has denied them at the hands of loving, deserving, and considerate parents.
