Mrs. John Rashford Dead

Passed Away at the Home of Mrs. M. T. McEvoy Thursday.

Mrs. John Rashford died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M. T. McEvoy, last Thursday morning after a serious illness of two or three weeks. She had not, however, been enjoying very good health for several months.

The funeral was held Saturday morning. Father McNerney celebrated a requiem mass at St. Thomas church. The burial was in St. John's cemetery. The pall bearers were L. E. and J. P. Conway, Charles Nolan, J. K. Martin, W. E. Jackman and E. J. McEvoy.

Helen Murray was born in the county of Wexford, Ireland, February 2, 1843. Hence she was in her seventieth year. She came to the United States when comparatively young. She was married to John Rashford, in Chicago, December 18, 1865. Mr. and Mrs. Rashford lived at Rock Island, Illinois, for a number of years. Mr. Rashford's health failed and he came to this place to spend some time, hoping that the change would benefit him. He died in 1892. Subsequently Mrs. Rashford made her home with her daughter, Mrs. M. T. McEvoy. There are two daughters living -- Mrs. McEvoy and Miss Tessie Rashford, both of this community. Another sister, Miss Lillie, died in April 1893.

Mrs. Rashford was a most exemplary and dutiful Christian woman. She was frugal, gave close and serious attention to the affairs of her home and family, and was an humble and faithful member of the church to which she belonged. She enjoyed the highest confidence of those who had occasion to mingle with her and her friendship often found substantial expression in generous and neighborly acts. During the later years of her life, death took from her two members of her household, but she bore her affliction with that resignation which characterizes the true Christian. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her and especially so by those who were bound to her by the strongest and the most tender of ties. The sympathy of all is extended to Mrs. McEvoy, Miss Rashford, and the other surviving relatives in their sorrow.
