Mrs. James Jennings

Mrs. James Jennings died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Will Walsh, at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. She had been ill since the previous Thursday. She was an elderly lady and quite unable to bear the siege of a severe illness. The time of the funeral has not been decided upon because relatives are coming from a distance and it is not known when they will arrive.

Miss Margaret O'Brien was born in County Cork, Ireland in 1840. In 1860 she came to Morris, Ill. The same year she was united in marriage to James Jennings. In 1880 they came to this county from Braidwood, Ill., and settled on a farm in Great Oak township. Later they moved to Emmetsburg.

Mrs. Jennings was a devout and life long member of the Catholic church and a woman of noble christian character. She was beloved by her numerous friends and known to be kind and charitable. Her death brings to a close a long and useful life and bereaves her family of a kind, indulgent, dutiful and beloved mother. Two sons, Patrick of this place, and James of Springdale, Mont., and four daughters, Mrs. Will Walsh and Mrs. John Burns of this county, Miss Margaret Jennings of Minneapolis and Miss Elizabeth Jennings of Springdale, Mont., survive her. Also two sisters, Mesdames Murray and Brocham and William O'Brien sr., all of this place, survive her. To the bereaved relatives we extend our sincere sympathy.

Mrs. James Jennings Dead.

Was a Resident of Palo Alto Since 1880.

Mrs. James Jennings, one of the old residents of this community, passed away Sunday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. H. Walsh, of this city. Although she had not been physically strong for many years, she was not taken seriously ill until Thursday. She fully realized that the end was rapidly approaching and she made timely preparation for the final summons. The funeral will most likely be held tomorrow. Her son James and her daughter, Miss Lizzie, are coming from Springdale, Montana.

Margaret O'Brien was born in the county of Cork, Ireland, in 1840. She came to the United States with her parents when she was quite young. They located in the vicinity of Morris, Illinois. Later they lived at Braidwood, that state. Miss O'Brien was married to James Jennings at Morris, in 1860. In February, 1880, Mr. and Mrs. Jennings came to this county and settled on a farm in Great Oak township. Mr. Jennings died a number of years ago. Some time later Mrs. Jennings came to Emmetsburg and subsequently made her home beside her daughter, Mrs. W. H. Walsh. There are two sons and four daughters living. The sons are Patrick of this city and James of Springdale, Montana. The daughters are Mrs. W. H. Walsh and Mrs. John Burns of this locality, Miss Margaret Jennings, who has lived in the Twin Cities for some time, and Miss Lizzie, who resides with her brother at Springdale, Montana. William O'Brien, Sr., a brother, and Mrs. D. Brocham and Mrs. Murray, both sisters, reside in this locality.

Mrs. Jennings was among the pioneer women of Great Oak township. Friends and neighbors knew her as an industrious, frugal woman, a kind, patient, devoted mother, and a most conscientious and useful member of society. In her declining years, her health failed and her husband died a number of years ago. Her sons and her daughters showed her every attention, manifesting a high appreciation of all that she had done for them during their years of childhood. Though she has passed away, the memory of her many sacrifices for them will often be tenderly recalled. The sympathy of all is extended to them in their sorrow.
