John Brennan

John Brennan, whose body was interred in St. John's cemetery here Saturday, Jun 20, died at the home of his niece, Mrs. Martin J. Laughlin in Walnut township at three o'clock Thursday, June 11. He had been ailing only a few weeks, though quite infirm for some time. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. J. Kelly at the Catholic church in Graettinger Saturday morning, after which the body was brought here for burial. The pall bearers were C. T. Nolan, Con Leonard, J. P. Conway, J. J. Mahan, Matt Quinn and Will Laughlin.

The deceased was born in Ireland in 1844. He came to America in 1872, coming direct to Iowa and Palo Alto county. He worked for Pat Nolan on the farm near the river for a few years, and then located on a farm in Walnut township with his brother, Patrick. They kept house for themselves and worked the farm for many years. Patrick died about 25 years ago. For some years after Mr. Brennan continued to live there and then went to the home of his niece, Mrs. M. J. Laughlin, where he subsequently made his home. He lived to the ripe old age of 81 years.

He was honest, upright and fair in all of his dealings. He was kind and neighborly and enjoyed a good turn to anyone. He was not aggressive and made no enemies. There are members of his family who never came to America who are still living. His brother, Nicholas, died here about fifteen years ago. Two nieces, Mrs. M. J. Laughlin of Graettinger, Mrs. Will Kane of Estherville, and two nephews, P. P. Nolan and Mike Nolan. To them the Tribune extends sincere sympathy.
