Death of Mrs. Wm. Collins.

Thursday Mrs. Wm. L. Collins died at her home in the southeast part of this city after an illness of but a few days. She had been at Nevada, Iowa, visiting her daughter, Mrs. O'Donnell, and while there contracted a cold which culminated in her death. The funeral was held Saturday and was largely attended. The usual services were conducted at Assumption church by Father Costello and the remains were laid to rest in St. John's cemetery.

Margaret Kinney was born at Castle Bar in the county of Mayo, Ireland, in August, 1839. She was married at New Castle, Staffordshire, England, in April, 1858, to William Collins, who still survives her. There are two sons and two daughters. The sons are Peter, of West Bend, and Michael J., of Saylor, Iowa. The daughters are Mrs. P. Miller, of Emmetsburg, and Mrs. J. O'Donnell, of Nevada, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Collins came to the United States in 1864. They lived at Mahoney Place, Schuylkill county, Pennsylvania, until 1877, when they came to Iowa. They subsequently resided in this city. All who knew Mrs. Collins had the highest regard for her. She was a woman of unusual energy and of positive convictions. She had well defined ideas of industry and duty and she was intensely devoted to what she considered proper and right. She was an ardent Catholic lady and was as punctual in the performance of her religious obligations as she was active in the busy affairs of life. She was decidedly a home woman, ever zealous for the comfort and good living of those who had the strongest claims to her love and maternal affection. She was one of those good old fashioned mothers society never learns fully to appreciate until they have passed away. The Democrat deeply regrets the loss of this most excellent and useful woman and extends its sincere sympathy to the aged husband and the other members of the family.
