William J. Collins Dead

Was One of the Older Settlers of This County

In the early hours of Sunday morning the death messenger came to Mr. William Collins of this city and he passed on to the other side. He was quite advanced in years and this with an attack of something else was too much for him.

The deceased was born in the county of Cavan, Ireland, in the year 1837 and in consequence he was in the 78th year of age. He was married in the year 1858 to Miss Margaret Minney at New Castle, England. Five years later they came to America and located in the state of Pennsylvania. Here they resided until 1877 when they came west and settled at New Harford this state. In 1882 they came to Emmetsburg and have since then made their home here. Mrs. Collins died a number of years ago and of the twelve children born to Mr. Collins only two sons and two daughters survive him.

He was a conscientious man in his dealings with his fellow men and ever sought to do what was right toward all men. The funeral was held Tuesday from Assumption church and the remains interred in St. John cemetery.
