An Aged Lady Passes Away

Mrs. Patrick Dooley, One of Widely Known Ladies of County.

Mrs. Patrick Dooley, one of the old residents of our town and county, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. P. C. Neary, of this city, Sunday morning after an illness of some duration. She was far advanced in years. Her age was 82. The funeral was held on Tuesday. Services were conducted at the Assumption church, Monsignor P. F. Farrelly celebrating a requiem high mass. A large number of relatives, old neighbors and friends were in attendance. The burial was in the family lot in St. John's cemetery. The pall bearers were Joseph Mulroney, Thomas Dawson, J. J. Deneen, John O'Brien, Joseph F. Joynt and J. P. Downs.

Mary Ann Nolan was born in the county of Galway, Ireland, October county in 1884. They spent many States with her parents when she was four years old. They settled at Newport, Rhode Island, where they lived for a number of years. Later they moved to Delavan, Wisconsin. They also resided for some time at Pingree Grove, Illinois. Miss Nolan was united in marriage at Delavan, Wisconsin, February 17, 1861, to Patrick Dooley. Mr. Dooley served his country during the Civil war. Mr. and Mrs. Dooley came to Palo Alto county in 1840. They spent many years on a farm in Emmetsburg township. Mr. Dooley died quite a number of years ago. Later Mrs. Dooley came to this city and bought a home on the south side. When she became quite advanced in years, she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. P. C. Neary. She is survived by five sons and three daughters. The sons are Martin of Shreveport, Ia., John B., of Fort Worth, Texas, P. E. of San Angelo, Texas, R. J. of Emmetsburg, W. R. of Estherville and F. E. of Minneapolis. The daughters are Mrs. P. C. Neary, Mrs. P. F. Dawson and Mrs. Charles McNulty. All live in this city except Mrs. Dawson, who resides at Waurika, Oklahoma. A son, Michael, died a number of years ago and two daughters, Alice and Grace, passed away in infancy. A sister, Mrs. George Gray, lives in California. There are thirty-one grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Mrs. Dooley was a very deserving Christian lady. Though never strong and having a large family of small children, she was always glad to respond to calls for assistance in time of need. She administered to the sick willingly and cheerfully and did everything she could to relieve them. Though she did not, in early years, have the advantages of the young people of our time, she took pains to see that all of her children were given a good education and urged them to win their way to the front. In this laudable ambition, she was not disappointed. Her three daughters were among the successful school teachers of our county and several of her sons became active, successful and prominent in railway circles. From the day of her childhood in Rhode Island to the close of her career in our county, what marvelous changes she witnessed in every activity in life. She was a dutiful wife, a tender, loving mother, a loyal friend and a faithful member of her church. She was not afraid to answer the final summons and sank peacefully into her long, last sleep. Her death is sincerely and widely mourned for she was one of our country's best, most deserving women. The sorrowing sons and daughters have the sincere sympathy of our many readers in the loss they have sustained.
