JOHN F. KENNEDY DEAD - Passed Away at his home in Fonda, Two weeks Ago
Last week in our rush we forgot to report the death of John F. Kennedy at his home in Fonda. During the winter of 1913-1914, Mr. Kennedy was injured on a railroad and he never fully recovered the effects of his misfortune. He was quite ill for about three months when death relieved him of his sufferings. He passed away two weeks ago today. The funeral was held at the Catholic Church at Fonda the following Friday. There was a very large attendance. The Pastor, Father Geelan, paid a high tribute to Mr. Kennedy’s zeal and exemplary conduct as a Christian gentleman and his worth as a husband, father and citizen. The burial was in the cemetery of that place.
Mr. Kennedy was born at Maysville, Kentucky, in 1856. When he was a child his parents moved to Allamakee county, this state. Thirty-three years ago he came to Palo Alto county and located on a farm in Great Oak township. After locating in this county, he was married to Miss Celia Waldron. Several years later, he sold out and opened a store at Ayrshire. After a few years experience in the mercantile business, he traded his stock of goods for land near Laurens. Later he became a merchant at Fonda. He is survived by his wife, two sons, and six daughters. His death is also mourned by his half brothers, Patrick S., Michael and William Malloy, of this place, and his half sister, Ellen Malloy of Wall Lake.
Mr. Kennedy was, by our citizens in general, regarded as one of the most upright and and high-minded men of our county. He was a gentleman of most exemplary habits, of high aims, and conscientious devotion to duty. He was genial and obliging and was a most helpful neighbor. His many old friends in this community who admired him for his many excellent qualities and for his sterling worth as a man will learn with unfeigned sorrow of his death at a comparatively early age. The sympathy of all is extended to Mrs. Kennedy, the sons and daughters , and to the surviving brothers and sisters.
