Last Rites for Ness Matsen, 90, of Graettinger

Funeral services for Ness Hansen Matsen, 90, of rural Graettinger who died recently at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville following a prolonged illness were held at North Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger Friday, February 1. The Rev. O. J. Reitz officiated and burial was in Valley View cemetery. Fuhrman’s of Graettinger were in charge of arrangements

Born July 25, 1872 in Schleswig, Denmark, he was the son of Hans Christian and Anna Christina Carlson and received his education in Denmark. He came to the United States when he was 15 years old and has been a resident of Emmet county for over 50 years. He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran church.

His wife, the former Lena Knutson of Hardy, Iowa, preceded him in death June 18, 1948.

Survivors include two sons, Walter of Ames and Frank of rural Graettinger, with whom he made his home, and a daughter, Mrs. Grace Skattebo of rural Wallingford. Also surviving are several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His parents, two sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.
