Theodore Meling Dies, Services to Be Wednesday

Funeral services for Theodore Meling, 69, of Cylinder will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Depew. Reverend Oliver F. Johnson will officiate and burial will be in South St. John's Cemetery at Cylinder with Ellsworth -- Beiter in charge of arrangements.

Services will be held at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Wednesday after which the casket will be taken to the church where it will remain until time of services.

Mr. Meling died suddenly January 25 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Robert O'Briant in Sunnyvale, California.

Born March 31, 1893 in Primghar, Mr. Meling was the son of Anna and Ben Meling. He moved to the Cylinder vicinity when he was 10 years old. On December 12, 1917, he married Sadie Naig at Primghar and they became the parents of six children, four of whom survive.

They include Mrs. Harvey Buenger of West Bend, Mrs. Robert Place of Armstrong, Duane at home, Mrs. Robert O'Briant of Sunnyvale, California. Also in Nice, Mrs. Roger (Myrna) Foley of Cylinder, who became a foster child of the Melings when her parents died when she was six years old. She made her home with the Melings and considered them her parents.

Also surviving are eight grandchildren; a brother, Julius of Walnut Grove and three sisters: Mrs. Morris Mitchell of Cylinder, Mrs. Chester Skar of Primghar and Mrs. Albert Mitchell of Fenton.

Mr. Meling was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother, a daughter, Theora who was 16 years old at the time of her death, and a son who died in infancy.

During the services Torger Froiland will sing "How Great Thou Art" and "I'm But a Stranger Here."

Pallbearers include Elmer Randa, Edward Norland, Kenneth Hagen, Emil Skartwed, Paul Seid and Ernest Gjerde.
