Jane Young, 75, School Deputy, Teacher, Dies

Funeral services for Miss Agnes Jane Young, 75, lifelong Emmetsburg resident who died at her home January 4, were held Monday afternoon at two o'clock at the Ellsworth -- Beiter funeral home with the Reverend Chester L. Guinn officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.

Born in Emmetsburg January 10, 1887, she was a daughter of William B. and Agnes Kay Young and received her education in the Emmetsburg public schools, Iowa State Teachers College and Drake University.

She was a retired schoolteacher and had taught in the country schools of the county for many years. Miss Young had also been deputy superintendent of schools in Palo Alto County for over 30 years.

Survivors include three brothers, W. J. of Tucson, Arizona, John of Emmetsburg and Herbert of Pocahontas. Also surviving are two nieces and a nephew. Miss Young was preceded in death by her parents and brother, A.B. Young of Eagle Grove.

Pallbearers included Morris Finnestad, Carl Spies, Sherwood Potter, John E. Smith, Jack J. Cook and C. L. Nicholson.

During the services Henry Hankey sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "The Old Rugged Cross."

Although Miss Young had been in failing health in recent years, she maintained a cheerful attitude and the Young home was a hospitable one. Friends and neighbors enjoyed dropping in for a visit and they were always made welcome. An efficient worker in the office of the county school superintendent for more than a quarter of a century, Miss Young had made many friends through her association with school officials and students. Her unexpected death Friday is regretted by all who knew her.
