Funeral Services for Lee Stanton Held at Trinity

Funeral services for Lee Wall Stanton, 37, of Emmetsburg were held Friday afternoon at two o'clock at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Reverend Donald E. Baustian officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery with Martin’s in charge. Mr. Stanton died January 2 at Palo Alto Memorial Hospital of a prolonged illness.

Born in Fargo, N.D., November 11, 1925, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Perry Stanton, he received his education in the public schools in Fessenden, N.D. He attended the University of North Dakota for one year after which he was appointed to the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, Long Island, N.Y. During his senior year he was regimental commander of the cadet corps and was given an award as outstanding cadet. Upon graduation he served as third officer aboard the S. S. America, followed by two years as third officer aboard the S. S. United States. He also served in the Navy during the second world war. He was married September 13, 1952 in Fairhaven, N.J. to Louise Turner.

Mr. Stanton was associated with the Aetna Casualty and Surety insurance company in Des Moines before moving to Emmetsburg 5 1/2 years ago. He was in the insurance business here and later a member of a boat building firm.

While in Emmetsburg he served as president of the Lions Club, was a member of the American Legion and a lay reader and warden of the Trinity Episcopal Church.

He is survived by his wife, Louise; three children, David, Martha and Douglas; and his parents.

Pallbearers included Robert O'Neil, Paul Schneider, Bruce Jensvold, Chris Larson, Robert Brereton and Clare White.
