Charles Thomond Passes Away

Charles Thomond died at his home in this city Sunday morning after a rather protracted illness. The funeral was held at the residence Tuesday afternoon, Dr. W.T. Jackson officiating. The interment was in Evergreen cemetery.

The deceased was born in Germany, July 4, 1829. When 25 years of age he came to the United States. He lived at Milwaukee for some time and later resided at Dubuque, where he followed tailoring. He came to Emmetsburg about 1879 and subsequently worked at his trade the greater part of the time. He was married to a Mrs. Jensen, of Emmetsburg township, in 1884. The latter survives him. There are two sons and four daughters. The sons are William and Charles. The daughters are Mrs. Frank Kneer and Misses Frieda, Anna and Laura Thomond.

The deceased was not an active, energetic business man in the ordinary meaning of the term. On the contrary, he was contented with citizenship in the quiet, humble walks of life. His ambition never prompted him to undertake difficult or laborious tasks. He was honest and frugal and was satisfied to live within his means. He seemed fully satisfied with his station in life and was doubtless happier than if he had been a man of much larger affairs. He was a mild, even-tempered, most agreeable old German gentleman. He was always willing to give and take and he would not intentionally trespass on the rights of any one. The wife and family have the sympathy of the many who know them in the loss they have sustained in the passing of him they loved so fully.
