Eli SWENSON

The earthly life of Eli Swenson came to the end last Saturday evening at 8 p.m. He had been very sick at the Culver Convalescent Home for some time. His Funeral was held Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 2nd, at 1:30 from the home of Oscar Knutson and at 2:15 at Bethany Lutheran church. Rev. M. C. Thompson officiated, assisted by Rev. A.K. Gaard. Music was furnished by Norma Barkve, Mrs. John Thompson, Mrs. Irwin Solberg, and Mrs. Wm. Juhl. Pallbearers were Peter Randa, Thomas Gjerde, Thor Hagen, Tom Naig, Rudolph Johnson, and Chris Thompson. Burial was made beside his wife in Evergreen Cemetery. Foy Funeral Services were in charge.
Eli Swenson, the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Swenson was born in Stavanger, Norway, May 1868. He left his home land when he was a young man of the age of 19, in 1887, and came to America, joining friends at Mt. Vernon, S. Dak. In 1888 he was married to Sarah Swenson, and to this union were born a son and a daughter.
Mr. and Mrs. Swenson continued to live at Mt. Vernon, S. Dak, till 1915 when they came to Iowa, and made their home in Cylinder. They lived there till 1922 when they moved to Emmetsburg. In 1933, Mrs. Swenson died. Mr. Swenson has continued to make Emmetsburg his home. He has been in poor health the last several years. He died Saturday evening Sept. 30th at 8:00, at the age of 76 years and four months. He leaves to mourn his death, his son, Clarence Swenson of Mt. Vernon, Wash., and his daughter, Mrs. Oscar Knutson of Cylinder, ten grandchildren, and eighteen great grandchildren. Also other relatives and friends.
