Sylvia Miller, daughter of Christian and Emma Miller, was born in Aurelia, Iowa on September 7, 1892. She lived her youth, attended school and grew to young womanhood in this vicinity.

She was united in marriage to Herman Frey of Melvin, Iowa on June 25, 1919 at Aurelia. After their marriage they farmed near Melvin, Iowa and moved into the town of Melvin in 1949. She entered the Prairie View Home in Sanborn, Iowa on June 5, 1976 and lived there until the time of her death on June 3, 1980 at the age of 87 years, eight months and 26 days.

She is survived by one son, Marvin of Waterloo, Iowa, and one daughter, Mrs. Harold (Joyce) Juber of Melvin, Iowa, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Herman, three brothers, two sisters and one daughter-in-law.

She was a member of the American Lutheran Church of Melvin, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 5 at 2 p.m. at the American Lutheran Church of Melvin, Iowa. Pastor H. Adix officiated.

Casket bearers were Rex Beckman, Donald Bracker, Ben Knock, Art Graves, Ronald Schultz and Wayne Watterson.

The congregation sang two hymns, "Amazing Grace" and "He Leadeth Me." Kris Reinke was organist.

Interment was in Baker Township Cemetery, Melvin, Iowa, with the Sanborn Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
