Nellie Jobes, daughter of John F. and Flora Jobes, was born in Melvin, Iowa on November 1, 1889. She lived her youth and attended elementary school in Melvin and graduated from high school in Puyallup, Wash. She returned to Melvin and taught in the rural schools in this vicinity.

She was united in marriage to William Graves of Melvin on March 10, 1910 at Melvin. Their entire married life was lived in Melvin.

She entered the Spencer Municipal Hospital at Spencer on May 14 and passed away there on May 29 at the age of 87 years, six months and 28 days.

She is survived by her husband, William of Melvin; one son Kenneth, of Melvin, and one daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Beulah) Schaffer of Melvin; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters: Grace Graves of Melvin and Mae Taylor of Portland, Oreg.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; two sisters, and one granddaughter.

She was a member of the Melvin United Methodist Church of Melvin, a member of Royal Neighbors, The Federated Women's Club and The United Methodist Women's Organization.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 1 at Melvin United Methodist church with the Rev. Paul Hansen officiating.

Casket bearers were Terry and Tom Graves, John Schuett, Jay Graves, Phil Stinson and David Peters. Mrs. Roy Van Houten accompanied the congregational singing of two hymns: "In the Garden" and "Children of the Heavenly Father"

Interment was in Baker Township Cemetery of Melvin with the Sanborn Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
