Emma Schultz, daughter of Carl and Alvina Schultz, was born one and one-half miles north of Melvin, Iowa on November 27, 1896. She lived her youth, attended school and grew to young womanhood in this vicinity.

She was united in marriage to Rudolph Hokuf of Melvin, Iowa on October 12, 1921 at Luverne, Minn.

After their marriage they farmed near Melvin, Iowa until 1959 when they retired and moved into the town of Melvin. Her husband preceded her in death on September 29, 1961 and she continued to make her home in Melvin.

She entered the Osceola Community Hospital at Sibley, Iowa on September 28, 1980 and passed away there on October 4, 1980 at the age of 83 years, 10 months and seven days.

She is survived by one brother, George Schultz of Melvin, Iowa and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother Arthur.

She was a member of the Melvin American Lutheran Church of Melvin, Iowa where services were held Tuesday, Oct., 7 at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. H.H. Adix officiated.

Casket bearers were Michael Schultz, Jeffrey Schultz, Scott Schultz, Jim Watterson, Wayne Watterson and Terry Pauling.

The congregation sang two hymns, "Rock of Ages" and "Bless Be the Tie That Binds," with Michael Beek as organist.

Interment was in Baker Township Cemetery, Melvin, with the Sanborn Funeral Home in charge.
