Henry Clyde Bensch, son of Edward and Carol Bensch, was born in David City, Nebraska on January 9, 1890. He moved with his family to Lansing, Iowa at the age of one and one-half years. He lived his youth, attended elementary school and graduated from the Lansing Iowa High School in 1906. He later attended Coe College at Cedar Rapids, Iowa from which he graduated in 1913.

He entered the Armed Forces on September, 1917 and served overseas and was discharged on April 27, 1919 with the rank of 1st Lieutenant.

He was united in marriage to Hazel Ahrens of Lost Nation, Iowa on June 30, 1926 at Maquoketa, Iowa. After their marriage they made their home in Decorah, Iowa where he was engaged in the funeral and furniture business. His wife Hazel, preceded him in death in 1948 and he continued to live in Decorah until March 18, 1967 when he entered Prairie View Retirement Home of Sanborn, Iowa. Clyde served as editor of the Prairie View News for 10 years and was active in all the activities of the home.

He passed away at the Osceola Community Hospital at Sibley, Iowa on January 27, 1979 at the age of 89 years, and 18 days.

He is survived by one son, Robert C. Bensch of Mankato, Minn., and one daughter, Mrs. Norman (Carol) Wheeler of Sibley, Iowa; six grandchildren: Jack, Jeff, Julie, Jennifer, Jay, and Jill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, one brother and two sisters. He was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church of Sanborn and a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge and American Legion.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 30 at 1:30 p.m. in the Sanborn Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Hansen officiating.

Masonic rites were conducted at the Sanborn Funeral Home Monday at 7:30 p.m. by Onyx Lodge of Sanborn, Iowa.
