Dale Dick Passed Away Last Thurs.

Dale Dick Sr. passed away on Thursday evening, January 16, 1947 at his home in Sanborn after an illness of ten weeks caused by a fractured leg. He was a patient in St. Joseph's hospital in Sioux City, immediately after the accident and after being brought home, infection was found in the leg so an amputation was performed at the Hull hospital, which failed to benefit him. He was brought home on Monday and death came to a relieve him a few days later.

Dale Irwin Dick was born September 22, 1885 at Huron, South Dakota, to Robert and Ella (Borst) Dick. The family moved to Pottawatiamie county, Iowa in 1890, to Primghar in the spring of 1891 and to Sanborn in October of that year. He attended the Sanborn Public School and had resided here continuously during the 55 years since.

On June 12, 1907, he was united in marriage with Alice Frame, at Canton, South Dakota.

Mr. Dick was in the employ of the Milwaukee Road, being retired from that work in 1936 after 34 years of service. He was an engineer at the time of his retirement. He was an active member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows for 41 years; a director of the O'Brien Co-operative Burial Association and a member of the Town Council.

Surviving are his wife and sons, Lawrence, Dale Jr., and Rudy Larson, and daughter, Mrs. Mildred Pierce, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Mrs. Margaret Tuttle, Hartley, Iowa; and Mrs. Berdette Kramme, Pierce, S.D., two sisters, Mrs. Verna Leemkuil, Sanborn and Mrs. Grover Marquis, Bemidji, Minn., also nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon, January 19, at two o'clock in the family home by Rev. H. Milo Hall, pastor of the Methodist church. Music was by Mrs. Harold Saupe and Mrs. Rob't. Gruenwald, who sang two duets, "One Sweetly Solemn Thought" and "Journey's End," accompanied by Miss Leah Smock.

Casketbearers were Sam Omer, A.H. Guse, Henry Wieman, T.R. Kimmel and Fred Wagner. Burial was in Roseland cemetery, where commitment services were given by a group of Odd Fellow members.

Relatives from away who were here for the services included Miss Zeota Frame, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Miss Rose Frame, Canton, S.D., Gerrit Roetman and granddaughter, Lavonne Dick, from Sheldon; and the daughters, Mrs. Robert Pierce, Cedar Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Kramme and sons, Pierre, S.D., and Mr. and Mrs. Mel Tuttle, of Hartley.
