Mrs. Mahoney Passed Away Last Wednesday

Minnie Leary was born January 20, 1863 at Chateaugay, Franklin County, New York and passed away at her home here Wednesday, December 31 after an illness of almost three months duration.

Her mother died in New York state when she was 18 years of age and she and her father accompanied her brother, Dr. James Leary to Iowa. Dr. Leary's first location was at Sanborn and Mrs. Mahoney resided here for many years, having a dress making establishment in the same building, where her brother had his office.

She was united in marriage to John Mahoney at Des Moines, Iowa in June 1894. Two sons, James J. and Earl were born to this union. After her marriage she lived in Curlew, Iowa, where Mr. Mahoney passed away December 13, 1912 and is buried at Ayrshire, Iowa.

Mrs. Mahoney and her two sons returned to Sanborn in 1913 and has since resided here. Both sons preceded her in death. James J. died November 16, 1931 and Earl, November 25, 1938.

Mrs. Mahoney was the last remaining member of the Leary family. She leaves to mourn her loss a grandson, Jack Mahoney, and her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Harry Minegar, both of Waukon, one sister-in-law, Mrs. Tom Leary and her family of Curlew, a nephew, Earl Leary, formerly of Sanborn, Iowa but now living in Madison, S. Dak.

Mrs. Minnie Mahoney was a home loving woman and a devout Christian and she will be greatly missed by her many relatives, friends and neighbors. She was a life-long member of the Catholic Church and was also affiliated with the Milwaukee Women's R.R. Club and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Father E.J.Fandel had charge of the funeral services, which were held in the St. Cecilia church at 10 a.m., Saturday morning, January 3, 1942, and burial was at St. Cecilia cemetery where she was laid to rest beside her two sons.

Pallbearers were, Leo Foley, E.W. Mayne, E.R. Bohan, Geo Hendrickson, A.V. Cook and Newt Glenn.

Friends and relatives attending the funeral services were, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Minegar and Jack Mahoney of Waukon, Mrs. Tom Leary and son, Joe of Curlew, Mrs. Wm. Leary and daughter, Rose Mary of Emmettsburg, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Leary and John Hart of Madison, S. Dak., Mrs. Mayme Hart, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Nagle and Mrs. R.C. Ahrend of Primghar, Mrs. Mayme Parker of Chicago, Mrs. A.W. West of Mason City and J.J. Griffen of Sioux Falls.
