Edna Burt, daughter of Charles and Henrietta (Downs) Burt, was born in Waukon, Iowa on June 22, 1896. She lived her youth, attended elementary school and graduated from the Waukon High School in 1913.
She was united in marriage to Leo J. Stone on March 27, 1914 at Waukon, Iowa. After their marriage they made their home in Elgin and Chicago, Ill., except for three years, 1939 - 41 at Sanborn where they had the Standard Cafe. Her husband passed away on Oct. 30, 1965. She continued to live in Chicago until April 15, 1976 when, because of illness, she entered Prairie View Home in Sanborn. She lived there until June 4, 1976. She then lived two years in the Lutrelia Bobzien Apts. in Hartley until she was able to have an apartment at Housing Development in Sanborn. After a stroke she returned to Prairie View Home on Jan. 21, 1981 where she lived until the time of her death on October 14, 1981 at the age of 85 years, three months and 22 days.
She is survived by one brother, Elgie Burt, of Fayetteville, Arks., two sisters, Gretta (Mrs. Emmett Protextor) of Sanborn, Ia., and Leona Running of Independence, Ia., many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leo, two brothers, Edward and Earl.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sanborn.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 17 from the Sanborn Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Koksma officiating. Casketbearers were Gene Fulk, Marian Jaycox, Wallace Verbrugge, David Norton, Terry Jaycox and Donald Getting. Jeane and Harriet Van Veldhuizen sang "How Great Thou Art" and "In The Garden." Lucille Van Veldhuizen was organist.
Internment was in Roseland Cemetery, Sanborn with the Sanborn Funeral Home in charge.
