Howard Maust 1888 - 1962

Howard Maust, 74, farmer of Horace, N.D. and former Sanbornite, died September 30, 1962. He was found dead at his farm house apparently from a heart ailment. Mr. Maust was born north of Sanborn, Iowa, March 25, 1888 and moved to Hessenden, N.D., where he farmed. He served 20 months in the army in World War 1, seven overseas. He married Nora Walla, January 12, 1925. They moved to Horace the following year. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, John of Horace; a daughter(Dorothy) Mrs. R.W. Showalter, Gillette, Wyo., a brother, four sisters and three grand-children. A Lutheran, Mr. Maust was a member of the Fargo American Legion Post. Funeral services were held October 4, 1962 at the Hanson Runsvold Chapel, Rev. O.E. Dolven, officiating. Interment in the Horace Cemetery. The four sisters and one brother surviving are: Eliza, Mrs. George Rubsam of Swanville, Minn., Cora Brendle and Sallie Pithan of Sanborn, Iowa, Alice, Mrs. Wm. Carpenter of Fonda, N.Y., Mr. Robert Maust of Lansing, Ia. Source: The Sanborn Pioneer, Thursday, October 11th, 1962.
