Sallie Maust Pithan was born to Bruce and Lizzie Fike Maust October 9, 1894 at Sanborn, Iowa. On December 23, 1935 she married John W. Pithan at Otto, Iowa. They farmed near Climbing Hill until 1937 when they moved to a farm near Sanborn. He passed away in 1951. She moved into the town of Sanborn in 1967 and lived there until she entered the Prairie View Retirement Home. She lived there until the time of her death at the Sheldon hospital on Dec., 6, 1972 at the age of 78 years. She is survived by five step children, Lillian Donalson, Idaho; Elise (Mrs. Tom McDonald), Otto, Ia., Margaret Monk, Sioux City, Ia., Melvin Pithan, Danbury; and George Pithan, Danbury, Ia.; three sisters, Eliza (Mrs. Geo. Rubsam) Swanville, Minn., Cora Brendle, Sanborn and Mrs. Wm. Carpenter, Fonda, New York; one brother, Robert Maust, Lansing, Ia., and a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Ladies' Aid of Sanborn, Iowa. Services were conducted on Dec. 9, 1972 at St. John's Lutheran Church of Sanborn with the Rev. Lowell Kayser officiating. Interment was in Goewey Township Cemetery, Osceola County, Ia., with the Saborn Funeral Home Service, Vic Vogelaar, Director, in charge of arrangements.
