SIBLEY, Iowa-- Fred William Folkers, 94, of Sibley died Thursday, March 30, 2000, at Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sibley, with the Rev. William Flemer officiating. Burial will be in Holman Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at Walton, Roste & Vogel Funeral Home of Sibley.

Mr. Folkers was born June 23, 1905, in Osceola County, Iowa, the son of John Herman and Margaretha (Hahhen) Folkers. He attended school in Osceola County and graduated from high school in Ashton in 1923. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Ashton. He attended Mankato Commercial College.

He married Ada Klatt on June 25, 1930 at Sheldon Lutheran Church. The couple lived in Ashton a short time and then moved to Sibley. His wife died March 14, 1998.

He was elected on the Republican ticket as the Osceola County Auditor in 1926, and was reelected each term until his resignation on Jan. 1, 1946. He then accepted the position as vice-president and director of the Sibley State Bank, and became the bank president in January of 1962, and served in that capacity until he retired in 1970. He continued on as chairman of the board until 1985. He also served as Sibley City Treasurer for many years, treasurer for the American Red Cross, and CROP chairman and treasurer.

He was an active member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sibley, serving as a member of the church council, trustee and chairman of the church building committee of the current church edifice. He was also supportive of the mission program and the seminaries of the Lutheran Church (ELCA).

He enjoyed traveling in the United States and in Mexico.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Jennie Folkers of Sheldon; and many nieces and nephews.

He was Preceded in death by four brothers and seven sisters.
