SIBLEY, Iowa - Roger Lee Helmers, 73, of Sibley died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Rochester Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Sibley, with the Rev. Dale Phelps officiating. Burial will be in Holman Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Walton, Roste and Vogel Funeral Home in Sibley.

Mr. Helmers was born Sept. 3, 1926, in Sibley, the son of Albert and Nella (Feldkamp) Helmers.

He married Dorothy Davids on Feb. 25, 1947. They worked the family farm.

He served on many agricultural related organizations and his church as a Sunday School teacher, deacon and trustee. He also sang in the choir.

Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Gary and Cecila of Orange County, Calif., Robert and Diane of Ames, Iowa, and Rod and Donna of Albuquerque, N.M.; five grandchildren, Kristin Burford, Jill Stewart, Kimberly, Michael and David Chandler Helmers; four great-grandchildren; his twin sister and her husband, Rose and Fred Van Loh of Sheldon, Iowa; two brothers and their, wives, George and Dolorys of Sibley and Glenn and Helen of Lincoln; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers.
