Robert "Bob" Vellema, age 64, of Lake Park, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 23, 2012, in Greencastle, Pennsylvania.

Funeral Service will be Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at 10:30 A.M. at the Christian Reformed Church in Ocheyedan, Iowa. Rev. Bill Van Der Heide officiating.

Burial in Union Cemetery in Harris, Iowa.
Visitation will be Monday, February 27, from 2:30 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. all at the Christian Reformed Church in Ocheyedan, Iowa.

Robert Eugene Vellema was born on September 10, 1947 in Sibley, Iowa. He was the son of Henry and Bertha (Walburg) Vellema. He lived his youth in rural Harris, Iowa on the family farm. He attended school in Ocheyedan where he graduated from high school. Bob served in the United States Army, for one tour of duty, during the Vietnam Conflict, and was honorably discharged.

He married Paula Nebelsick of Harris, Iowa on January 7, 1978. They later divorced.

Bob lived in Lake Park, Iowa where he was an over-the-road truck driver. He had driven for Smith Company, Sather's Candy Company, and was presently an independent contractor working with Anderson Trucking out of St. Cloud, Minnesota, as a pilot car driver.

Bob was a baptized member of the Christian Reformed Church in Ocheyedan. He had attended the Presbyterian Church in Lake Park, Iowa.

He was a member of the American Legion in Round Lake, Minnesota.

Bob enjoyed tinkering with his 1969 GMC truck and collecting baseball and other kinds of hats. He enjoyed his family and friends, making new friends, and chatting around a coffee table. He was excited about working on a new relationship with his sons and making time for his grandchildren.

Bob passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 23, 2012, in Greencastle, Pennsylvania.
Those left to cherish his memories are his two sons and daughters-in-law: Tony and Cheryl Vellema and their son, George Vellema of Iowa City, IA, Nick and Terra Vellema and their son, Weston Vellema of Ankeny, IA; eight sisters and brothers-in-law: Sylvia and Jerry Bosma of Harris, IA, Dela and Dennis Daggett of Longboat Key, FL, Carol and Bob Murphy of Durham, NC, Phyllis and Dennis Bosma of Ocheyedan, IA, Cindy and Lynn Van De Brake of Sheldon, IA, Janie and Jeff Vande Griend of Sibley, IA, Donna and E.J. King of Sioux Falls, SD, Lori and Paul Kroeze of Orange City, IA; one brother and sister-in-law: Paul and Phyllis Vellema of Harris, IA; and many relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Kenneth Vellema, his niece, Sara Van De Brake.
