Conrad, 1885-1900, Storm Lake

CONRAD

My Great Grandfater was orphaned in New York and was sent on a train (Illinois Central) to Storm Lake, Iowa sometime between 1885 and 1900. SSN records show he was born 16 August, 1885, his name was Bert (or Burt) Conrad and he was taken in by the McGarry family of Storm Lake (apparently for farm labor, slept in the barn.) I was told by my mother that as a teenager he traveled throughout the west with a thrashing outfit working the wheat harvests. The earliest record I can find of him is back in Iowa on the 1910 census at 24 years old. At this point he had a farm south of Rembrandt in the Smith Township. I am interested in finding records of his arrival as a child in Storm Lake and hopefully the name of the orphanage and agent that brought him there.
