Hope somone can help. Looking for info on a Charles Kidney. Born 1866(65) in Poughkeepsie NY.He did not know his mother who died 1867 or father who died abt 1872. He was the youngest of three brothers placed in an orphanage in N.Y.(census 1870)I have traced him to:
1880 15 yrs old..laborer on a James O'Conner farm
1915 census Monroe, Albia Iowa 49 yrs old
1920 census 1st ward Albia Monroe,Iowa.Laborer with theater Co. Boarder with Alex & Laura Long
1925 "Inmates of Co. Home and State Institution" Fort Madison.Census questionare. On this he states he's 59 yrs.old. Born in NY. Been a resident of Iowa for 51 yrs. Does not know the names of his mother or father.
1930 census and later can not trace him.
From this, I can not imagine how an 8 yr old w/o parents got to Iowa. I am hoping some one out there might have access to data to find his name among train riders or can find his obit or death certif,(Monroe or Lee Co.), or might be able to get a date of his release from Fort Madison.Or some tidbit on why he was committed there.
Thanks ever so much to all. Charles was my Grt Granfather's baby brother. My GGt grandfather Robt. Kidney was indentured to another farm here in NY, married and had 9 children. The middle brother Frederick Kidney was also sent somewhere.
