Elmer A. Moe, 83, of Grand Rapids, died Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at Itasca Nursing Home. Elmer was born March 30, 1919, in Austin, Minn., to Rev. A. Elmer and Della (Ahre) Moe. He grew up in Aberdeen, S.D., earned a B.A. from St. Olaf College, Northfield, and M.A. from Northern State University in Aberdeen.

He married Margaret Idso on Oct. 25, 1942. He taught secondary mathematics at Milbank, S.D. for 12 years, and Sioux Falls, S.D. for 19 years. Elmer retired in 1980, moved to California for 12 years, then to Grand Rapids in 1997.

Elmer was an Army veteran of W.W.II. He was a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Grand Rapids, an avid golfer and woodcarver, and loved singing in a choir.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a stillborn daughter; son David, in 1993; two brothers; and a sister. He is survived by his wife Margaret of 60 years; daughter Maxine Moe of Grand Rapids; and son Col. Arne Moe, of Eielsen AFB, Fairbanks, Ala.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Sat. March 22, in St. Andrew's Lutheran Church with Rev. George Gilbertson officiating. Burial at a later date at Prairieview [sic West Prairie View] Cemetery, Paullina, Iowa. Arrangements by Libbey Funeral Hoome, Grand Rapids.
