Services in memory of Doris Kern were held at 2 pm Sunday, July 19, 1992, at the United Methodist Church in Hartley. Rev. Melvin Ammon officiated. Committal service was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley. Baumgarten Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Doris Margaret Kern, the daughter of Howard and Lenora Green Dean, was born November 11, 1916, at Sanborn, Iowa. She attended Sanborn Schools, graduated from Whitewater Wisconsin High School and attended Drake University in Des Moines.

She was united in marriage to Kenneth Kern at Moscow, Idaho, on October 30, 1943. They made their home on a farm near Sanborn and became the parents of two children. She was always family oriented and loved to be involved with their activities. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hartley, and had lived in Hartley since 1982. She helped with the food operation at Pet's Supper Club in Hartley.

She passed away at the hospital in Hartley on July 16, 1992, at the age of 75. Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband in 1982. Left to cherish her memory are one daughter and her husband, Cheryl and Kenny Petersen of Hartley; one son and his wife, Kenneth and Karen Kern of Sanborn; five grandchildren [redacted]; one sister, Phyllis Dean of Tucson Arizona; as well as other relatives and friends.
