Francis E. Mott
November 21, 1897 to December 15, 1976

Farncis Mott was born near Viola in Jones County, Iowa, son of James and Emma Mott. In November, 1908, in order to be near the Friends' Primary school at Mapleside, the family moved to the farm in Dale Township, O'Brien County.

Francis attended and graduated from Friends' Boarding School at Barnesville, Ohio, where he met Frances Binns of Cleveland, Ohio. They were married in 1920 and lived and raised their family on the farm where Francis grew up.

He was a life-time member of the Religious Society of Friends and active in Meeting affairs. He was a charter member of the O'Brien County Farm Bureau, and served a number of times as an officer of the Farmers Coop Telephone Company. In years past he was a member of the township election board and later worked often as a volunteer for the local CROP drive.

Francis possessed a genuine love for people and a warm sense of humor evidenced in his relationships with neighbors, friends, and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Sina, and two brothers and a sister who died in infancy.

Survivors include his wife, Frances; children Mildred and Hubert Mendenhall of Costa Rica, Donald and Dorothy Mott of Paullina, Muriel and James Neifert of Minneapolis, and James and Laura Mott of Alden, Iowa; sixteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; also three sisters, Ellen Copeland of Fairhope, Alabama; Beulah Carr of Ossipee, New Hampshire, and Marjorie Dolphin of Orange City, Iowa.

Memorial services were held at Friends Meeting House in Paullina on Sunday morning, December 19.
