Services held for Vernon L. Halstrom

Funeral services for Vernon L. Halstrom were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 26, 1999, at Oakdale Evangelical Free Church, rural Meriden, Iowa, with Rev. Warren Coe officiating. Interment was at Prairie View Cemetery at Paullina, Iowa, under the direction of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home. The flag presentation was by the Russell West Post of the American Legion of Paullina.

OBITUARY

Vernon L. Halstrom, the son of Edwin and Edna Daniels Halstrom, was born October 7, 1919, in Cherokee County, Iowa. He received his education in country schools and later graduated from Larrabee High School in 1938. Vernon served in the Army during W.W. II.

On August 1, 1954, he was united in marriage to Alice Runge at Zion United Church of Christ in Calumet. After their marriage the couple settled in Paullina where for many years he was employed at the Paullina Grain Company until his retirement in 1981.

Vernon passed away on Thursday, December 23, 1999, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, reaching the age of 80 years, 2 months and 16 days.

He attended Oakdale Evangelical Free Church in rural Meriden and was a member of the Russell West Post of the American Legion of Paullina.

Vernon leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Alice of Paullina; two daughters: Deborah Halstrom of Omaha, Nebraska, and Janelle and her husband, Jay Jones of Paullina; one son and his wife. Brian and Tami Halstrom of Minden, Iowa; two grandchildren: Allyson and Eric; two sisters: Mrs. Vivien Jones of Paullina and Mrs. Joyce Grinstead of Long Beach, California; four brothers: Howard Halstrom of Paullina, Dale Halstrom of Olympia, Washington, Richard Halstrom of Paullina and Irvin Halstrom of Downey, California; also a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters: Evelyn, Ruth and Dorothy.
