Services held for Helen C. Puhrmann

Funeral services for Helen C. Puhrmann were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 5, 1997, at the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina, Iowa, with Rev. Donald Freeman officiating.

"Beyond the Sunset," "In the Garden." and "The Old Rugged Cross" were sung by the congregation. The organist was Mrs. Marilyn Ewoldt.

The honorary casket bearers were Mark Puhrmann, Michael Puhrmann, Kelly Puhrmann, Brian Puhrmann, Daniel Puhrmann, Douglas Lockwood and Byron Anderson.

The casket bearers were Bob Engel, Mario Ebel, Lynford Pauling, Larry Feldotto, Darrell Shirk and Gordon Rohrs.

Interment was Prairie View Cemetery at Paullina, Iowa, under the direction of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home.

OBITUARY

Helen Christina Puhrmann, the daughter of Louis and Sophia Pederson Stofferan, was born January 24, 1910, near Archer, Iowa. She received her education in country school and later graduated from Archer Consolidated School in 1928, and from Iowa State University School of Nursing in 1932. She was united in marriage to Ernest Puhrmann on November 29, 1933 in Ramona, South Dakota. After their marriage, the couple farmed northwest of Paullina for 35 years. After her children were in high school, Helen returned to nursing, working at Millie's Rest Home in Sutherland, Wide View Rest Home in Paullina and Rest Haven Manor in Primghar. The couple retired from farming and moved into Paullina in 1973. Ernest passed away in April of 1975. After his passing, Helen kept busy babysitting for many families in Paullina. To these children she is known as "Granny Helen." She moved to the Wide View Rest Home where she passed away on Friday. October 3, 1997, reaching the age of 87 years, 8 months and 9 days.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina, was active in the Presbyterian Women holding various offices, was a Deaconess and in charge of the Cradle Roll for six years.

Helen is survived by three sons and their wives, Ronald and Pauline Puhrmann of Havelock, Iowa. Harlyn and Helen Puhrmann of Hager City. Wisconsin, and Bradley and Becky Puhrmann of Paullina; one daughter and her husband, Elaine and Leland Faber of Sheldon, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Mark and his wife Susan Puhrmann, Darlya and her husband Douglas Lockwood, Brian Puhrmann, Sara and her husband Byron Anderson, Christina Puhrmann, Michael and Daniel Puhrmann, Crystal and Kelly Puhrmann; four step-grandchildren, Lila and Tom Warman, Suzanne Faber, Alan and Robin Housworth and Chad Housworth; seven greatgrandchildren, Eric and Erin Puhrmann, Jennifer, Angela, Jay and Justin Lockwood, Elizabeth Anderson; four step-great-grandchildren. Heather and Samantha Warman and Aubrey and Austin Housworth; also a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four sisters and five brothers.
