1901 - MATIE WILCOXON - 1961

Matie Wilcoxon, daughter of Ferdinand and Clara Hilbert, was born August 8, 1901 at Sutherland. She grew up and attended school in Sutherland and following her graduation held several jobs in this area and on June 15, 1929 she was married to James Wilcoxon. During the past few years she had served as head of the school hot lunch program.

Last fall Mrs. Wilcoxon had a serious operation and was apparently recovering well until June 11, when she entered the Methodist hospital in Sioux City and died at the age of 59 years, ten months, and three days.

Mrs. Wilcoxon is survived by her daughters, Maureen, Mrs. Marshall Wynn, of Monticello, Iowa, Bonnie, Mrs. Francis Pauling, of Lewisville, Minnesota, and Ada, Mrs. Richard Gorman, of South Bend, Indiana. She is also survived by six grandchildren and one great-grandchild, two sisters, Mrs. Lillian James of Long Beach, California, and Mrs. Lena Smalley of Pomona, California, and a brother, Leonard Hilbert of Bellflower, California. Two brothers and her parents preceded her in death. Services were held in the Presbyterian Church and burial was in the Prairie View cemetery.
