Death Summons Agnes McCauley [Wilcoxon]

The community was shocked last Saturday, when the sad news was passed around that Mrs. James R. Wilcoxon had passed away at a hospital in Hartley, where she had been taken a day or so previously for medical aid. The deceased had undergone an operation and it seems that her being already in a very weakened condition, having been in ill health for several years, she was unable to withstand the ordeal.

The funeral services Tuesday were very largely, attended bespeaking the high esteem in which she was held in the community. The floral offerings were beautiful, the tributes from many friends and relatives.

Agnes Anna McCauley was born November 10, 1886 [gravestone year 1885] on a farm near Paullina, Iowa. She died February 5, 1927, was educated in the local school, attending Paullina high school. She united with the First Presbyterian church of Paullina in her early girlhood and was still an active member at the time of her death. She had always been a willing worker in the church, Sunday School and every activity worthwhile.

She was united in marriage to James R. Wilcoxen [Wilcoxon] on February 20th, 1913. To this union was born three children, Alta Maureen, age 12 years; Ada Marie, ago 2 years. One child died In Infancy. She was a loving wife and mother. She leaves to mourn her sudden departure, her loving husband, two children, her mother, Mrs. Agnes McCauley, and two brothers, Andrew and Robert, all of Paullina, Iowa, besides other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the home and in the Presbyterian church on Tuesday afternoon, with the pastor of the church in charge. Appropriate songs were sung by the choir of the church under the direction of Mrs. W. J. E. Thatcher, with Miss Marian Brown assisting at the piano. The pallbearers were: Ray Gruver, Paul Drefke, Lester Brown, Albert Ihle, Bob Morehead and Leslie Henderson. Interment was in Prairie View Cemetery.

Relatives and friends from out of town to attend the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Wilcoxon, Mr. and Mrs. John Wllcoxon, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Dayton and son, Mr. and Mrs. Rosa Wllcoxon, all of Slayton, Minn.; Mr., and Mrs. Wilbur Wllcoxon and daughter Bernice, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wedge of Larrabee, Iowa; Mrs. Ferris Sherivan, Mr. and Mrs. Alva Wilcoxon and Mrs. Morris Umbarger of Sioux City. Mrs. Ray Goodell, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert McCauley Sr, of Lake Park; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Craun, Wm. Irvine of Primghar, and Mrs. Virgil McKinney and son Francis of Cleghorn.
