Alice Dykstra

Mrs. Alice Dykstra, age 80, of Orange City died Tuesday, May 27, 1997 at the Long-Term Care Facility of the Orange City Hospital.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 30 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. Pastor Stephen De Boer will officiate. A graveside service will be held at 9:45 a.m. at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon. Visitation will be after 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 29, with the family present from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home in Orange City.

Alice was born Dec. 13, 1916 at Sanborn, the daughter of Rens and Maggie (Burrie) Postma. As a child, her family moved from Sanborn to Sheldon. On Dec. 23, 1936 she married Tim Dykstra at Sheldon. They farmed mostly in northwest Iowa. In 1966 they moved to Orange City.

In the fall of 1994, Mrs. Dykstra became a resident of the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, and in the fall of 1995, she transferred to the Long-Term Care Facility.

Mrs. Dykstra was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church where she was involved in ladies Bible studies. In earlier years she taught Sunday School and participated in Bible studies in other churches where they lived.

Survivors include her husband; two sons and their wives, Richard C. and Norma Dykstra of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Donald and Albertha Dykstra of Cerritos, Calif.; two daughters and their husbands, Margaret and Jim Van Polen of Middleville, Mich., and Linda and Stan Korver of Alton; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ann Van Beek of Sheldon; and a brother, Clarence Postma of Paullina.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
