Mrs. C. E. Cullison Succumbs, Last Rites At Presbyterian Church

Mrs. C. E. Cullison, 52, widely known and respected resident of the community for many years, died at the Sioux Valley hospital in Cherokee early Saturday morning.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Cowan and Gaudian Funeral home at 1 30 o clock, and at the First Presbyterian church at 2 o'clock. The Rev L. R. Middents officiated at the last rites, and at graveside services at Prairie View cemetery.

Mrs. Cullison, nee Marlys Brown, underwent major surgery in August 1953 but continued with many activities until June of this year. For 11 weeks she remained at the home of her sister, Mrs. Frank Gabby, but was taken to the hospital Oct. 24, ten days prior to her passing away. She was a member of the Presbyterian church and of the Mary circle. She was also a member of the Mayflower chapter Order of the Eastern Star of Deep River.

Marlys Brown, youngest daughter of Alex F. and Jane E. Young Brown, was born June 21, 1904, near Marcus in Cherokee county. She was one of nine children. At a young age, she moved with her parents and family to Paullina, where she
attended school, graduating from Paullina high school in 1921.

Following high school, she entered Buena Vista college at I Storm Lake, completing a two-year teacher's course. She also took extra summer schoolwork at Iowa State college, Ames, and Iowa State Teachers college, Cedar Falls.

She taught for 10 years before and after her marriage, at Hayes Consolidated school at Storm Lake, Center Junction, Brooklyn, Barnes City and Deep River. On April 17, 1931, she was united n marriage to Cloyd E. Cullison of Deep River. They settled on a farm near Deep River where they lived until the spring of 1947, when they moved to a farm near Paullina, where she lived until her death.

Mrs. Cullison was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister. She is survived by her husband and four children, Betty Ann, Jerry, Ronnie and Linda Sue, all at home; one sister, Mrs. Margaret Gabby of Paullina; and five brothers, Howard, Roscoe and Don Brown lot Paullina, Arlo Brown of Le Mars and William Brown of Kingsley.

Pallbearers were Emil Peterson, A. W. Anderson, Ray Carlson, Ed Laue, Albert Laue and Arthur Hoger. Mrs. Harold DeJong sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "My God and I," accompanied by Mrs. M. W. Smith. In charge of flowers were Mr. and Mrs. A. C Horstman, Mr. and Mrs. Hans Linder and Mr. and Mrs. Jennings Henderson.
