Accident Takes Life of Mrs. Elroy Koehlmoos
Funeral Services Today for Victim of Car Upset - Children Reported Doing Well

A tragic car accident claimed the life of a Paullina mother, injured her two children, about 4 o'clock Monday afternoon, when slippery roads evidently caused her to lose control of the family car and it landed upside down in a ditch 4 ½ south of town.

Mrs. Elroy Koehlmoos, age 28, died instantly. The two children, who were taken to Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee, will be hospitalized several days Elroy James, age 9, suffered cuts and bruises. His 8 year old sister, Linda, received a skull fracture.

Mr. Koehlmoos, who accompanied his wife to town to drive their farm pickup truck home, had already returned home and learned of his heart-breaking news shortly afterward. Mrs. Koehlmoos had remained in town to get the children from school and to do some shopping. They had recently moved from a farm near Primghar to the "home place" of her father, Henry C. Hibbing.

Young Elroy, in telling his story of the accident, said the car first slipped to the right side of the road and as his mother tried to regain control veered to the left and into the ditch. He didn't recall just how it flipped upside down, as he "went to sleep", he thought.

Linda, riding in front, was thrown from the car. She helped her brother out of the back seat and they ran to the nearby Donald Thorius farm for help. In the meantime, a passing trucker also drove into town to report the accident.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, at the Gaudian Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. and at Zion Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Prairie View Cemetery
