Robert Meyer, Sr. Obituary
Robert Meyer was born May 16, 1863 in Germany. When he was about two years of age, he came with his parents to Lansing, Cook County, Illinois. There he received his schooling and was confirmed In the Lutheran faith and in that he remained until the end.
In 1878 he moved with his parents to Marcus, Cherokee County, Iowa. They resided there one year and from there they moved to Paullina, O'Brien County where he grew to manhood.
In 1886, November 28th, he was united in marriage with Alvine [Alwina] Both and to this union twelve children were born, two died in infancy. Another child, Arthur died when 12 years of age and Alvine passed away when 9 years of age.
His wife preceded him in death eight years ago and he is survived by eight children who are: Albert of Granville; Anna Hoger, Robert, Jr., Fritz, Kathe and Roy of Paullina; Alice of Sutherland and Ernest of Moneta. He also leaves to mourn his death two sisters, Emma of St. Paul, Minn., and Anna of Paullina and three brothers, William of Minneapolis, Arney of Butterfield, Minnesota, and Herman of Paullina, besides twenty-eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren and a big circle of friends.
He was taken ill October 25th and was taken, to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Anna Hoger where he was cared for until his death which was caused from phlebitis. He had reached the age of 76 years, five months and 24 days.
Funeral services were held from the home of Mrs. Hoger and the Zion Lutheran Church Monday afternoon with the Rev J. Hartmeister in charge of the services. Interment was made in the Prairie View Cemetery.
Attending the services from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Peterson of New Ulm, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. George Struve and daughter and Mrs. G. Struve of Royal; Mr. Henry Meyer and children, John Meyer, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Meyer, Mrs. Ray Meyer, Dorothy Meyer and husband and son, Reinhart Schuknecht of Monterey, Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. William Meyer, Mrs. L. M. Poole and son and George Meyer of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Both and Lou of Lake Benton, Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Meyer and daughter of Iona, Minnesota, Mrs. Chas. Meyer, Sr. of Lake Park, Iowa, and Mr. and Mrs. Howell Tjossem of Gaza.
