Lucille Martha Meyer

A celebration service of victory in Christ Jesus for Luci Meyer will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD, on Saturday, February 4th, 2012, at 11:00 AM.

Lucille Martha (Rucklos) Meyer was born in Deshler, NE, on May 4, 1922, the third child and only daughter of August and Ludella Rucklos. Lucille/ Luci attended grade school and high school in Deshler. She went to Hebron (NE) Jr. College for a year and transferred to Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, IN to study music and English. At Valpo she met James F. Meyer (Jim), the love of her life. They graduated in 1948 and settled in Paullina, IA, where they were blessed with three children: Charlotte, Cecile, and Gordon.

Luci was an extremely positive person with a bright smile on her face for everyone she met. She really didn't know a stranger and she lived her life demonstrating her deep faith in God. Luci's life revolved around music. Her real joy was in sharing her extensive musical knowledge to her hundreds of piano students with a teaching career spanning over 70 years.

For her married life, Luci lived in Paullina, but after Jim died, she eventually moved to Sioux Falls, SD, where she worked for Augustana College as a dorm mother for international students.

Luci is survived by her children, daughter Char (Gordon) Kroemer of Newberg, Oregon; Cile (Bruce) Beecroft of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and son Gordy (Mimi) Meyer of Incline Village, Nevada; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Dr. Zachary (Inja) Beecroft, Yohan and Brayden of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Lt. Commander Alexander (Emi) Beecroft and James of Honolulu, Hawaii; and Rachel and Kaci Meyer (daughters of Gordy and Mimi); sisters-in-law, Natalie Meyer and Ann Rucklos; and several nieces and nephews in the United States and Canada.

Luci was predeceased by her husband. Luci died on January 12th, 2012 at her home at Bethany at the age of 89+ years. Her children express their deepest gratitude to her physician, Dr. David Nelson and to the dedicated staff at Bethany for the loving care she received.

In memory of Luci, memorials may be given to Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, IN, 46483-6493, or Augustana College, 2001 S. Summit Ave., Sioux Falls, SD, 57197, or Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 909 W. 33rd Street, Sioux Falls, SD, 57105. Condolences may be sent to the family at 9009 W. 32nd St., Sioux Falls, SD, 57106.
