Funeral services for Arlyce Ransom were held Thursday, December 12, 2002, at the Unite Church of Primghar with Rev. Ginger Moore officiating. Interment was at Pleasant Hill cemetery in Primghar, Iowa, under the direction of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home.

Obituary

Arlyce Ransom, the daughter of Tosten and Alma (Thompson) Strand, was born November 27, 1924, in Primghar, Iowa. She received her education in public schools near Primghar and graduated from Primghar High School in 1941.

She later graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She taught school in Westside, Iowa. It was there where she met George Ransom.

On January 12, 1946, Arlyce and George were united in marriage in Carroll, Iowa. Their first home was in Calaveras County, California. In 1951 the couple moved to Carthage, Missouri, where they owned and operated a truck stop and motel until 1958 when they moved to Primghar.

For 17 years, she was employed by Seletive Service, working from the O'Brien County Court House. She retired in 1975. She later began working for the O'Brien County Bell Newspaper for several years. She moved to the Primghar Care Center in September of 1999.

She passed away at the care center on Monday, December 9, 2002, reaching the age of 68 years and 12 days.

She was a member of the United Church of Primghar, a former youth leader and Sunday School teacher, and was on the building committee for the United Church. She was a charter member of the Primghar Golf and Country Club, a member of the Primghar community Playhouse, the Primghar Housing Board, Primghar Community Building Board and the F.F.W. Auxiliary of Primghar. She enjoyed playing cards, reading, golfing, and being with her family and friends.

Arlyce leaves to cherish her memory daughter Elizabeth and her husband, Larry Anderson of New Prague, Minnesota; son, Stephen and his wife, Marilyn Ransom of Slater, Iowa; four grandchildren [redacted]; six great-grandchildren [redacted]; two sisters, Myrne Jones of Sanborn and Eleanor and her husband, Edward Rasmussen of Callender, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Art Brown of Bettendorf, Iowa; and a host of other relatives and friends.
