Estelle (Walker) Holmes (1883-1962)

Mrs. Estelle Holmes, the daughter of L.W. Walker and Olive Reynolds Walker, was born April 21, 1883 in O'Brien county, near Sanborn, Iowa. She lived in O'Brien county all her life, the last sixteen years in the town of Hartley. She passed into eternal life at her home on May 31, 1962, at the age of 79 years, 1 month and 10 days.

She was a friend of the Methodist church, where she attended when she was able. She had been in failing health for several years.

As a child she had attended the public schools near her home. She was united in marriage to James L. Holmes on November 12, 1902. To them were born two daughters: Olive Jane Myers of Hartley, with whom Mrs. Holmes lived in recent years, and Pearl Estelle (Mrs. Warren S. Norton) of Sanborn. Mr. Holmes preceded his wife in death in 1956. She was also preceded by one brother and one sister and a granddaughter, Margie Pearl Ebel, in 1951.

Besides her daughters, she is survived by one brother, LeRoy Walker of Spirit Lake, Iowa; five grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren, as well as other relatives and many dear friends.

Services were held at the Methodist church in Hartley on Saturday, June 2, 1962 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Donald Cutler officiated. Interment was made at Pleasant View Cemetery with the Baumgarten Funeral Home in charge.
