On August 21, 1904, on a farm near Sutherland in Grant Township, O'Brien County, Iowa, Hulda Marie (Jebsen) Olhausen was born to George and Weibke (Scherner) Jebsen. She spent her early childhood going to country school and working on the farm.

She later worked at Red's Cafe and also with Dr. Hand. When mothers had their babies at home, she would stay and help the family for a few days.

On October 22, 1934, she married Harry Olhausen. To this union, five children were born. Harry and Hulda spent most of their married life in Hartley. After Harry retired as Postmaster in 1971, they moved to Las cruces, New Mexico. Harry passed away on July 18, 1972.

Hulda was loved by everyone and was always there for you. She as a stay-at-home mom, and a beautiful seamstress who made most of her children's clothers. She had the best vegetable garden, and canned everything. What she was most famous for, though, was her homemade bread and rolls. Every Saturday, the neighbors would come for coffee and fresh rolls, hot from the overn.

Hulda had been a member of the Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church in Hartley, and was a long-time member of the Eastern Star. She passed away at her home in Las Cruces, New Mexico on February 2, 2008 at the age of 103.

Left to cherish her memory is one son, H. Kenneth Olhausen and his wife, Nan, of Spearfish, South Dakota; three daughters: Marsha and her husband, Dennis Dagel of Sanborn, Iowa. Mary Schluter of Fence Lake, New Mexico, and Karen and her husband, John Miller of Las Cruces, New Mexico; eight grandchildren [redacted]; twenty-one great grandchildren; special friends, Clara Martin and Buzz Tifft; many other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Harry; an infant son, Craig; a great-great granson, Domenic; a son-in-law, Dewewy Schluter; one sister and her husband, Hilda and Milt Crosser; and one brother and his wife, Eddie and Millie Jebsen.
