Harry Frederich Olhausen, the son of William and Louise (Wieditz) Olhausen, was born at Hartley, Iowa, April 23, 1905. He passed away at Las Cruces, New Mexico, on July 18, 1972, at the age of 67, following a lengthy illness.

He was educated in schools at Hartley and graduated from Hartley High School in 1923. Following his graduation from Buena Vista College at Storm Lake, he taught in schools at Duncomb, Barnum, and Moneta, Iowa.

He was married on October 22, 1934 at Sibley, Iowa, to Hulda Jebsen, and the couple became the parents of five children.

He became a full time postal employee in 1946 at Hartley where he became Postmaster in 1951, serving in that position until his retirement in 1969. During this time he was very active in community affairs, and was first elected to the Hartley School Board in 1947.His service on that board was continuous until 1971. He served as its president from 1951 until 1957, and as secretary until his retirement from the board.

He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and Beacon Lodge No. 495 AF and AM.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one child.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Hulda; one son, H. Kenneth of Las Cruces, New Mexico; three daughters, Mrs. Marsha Strubbe, and Mrs. Karen Miller, both of Las Cruces, and Miss Mary Olhausen of Albuquerque, NM; seven grandchildren; his step-mother, Mrs. Dora Olhausen of Hartley; five brothers, Heinie of Arnolds Park, Irvin of Spencer, Gerald of Las Cruces, Glenn of Lakewood, California; and Marvin of Cherokee; two sisters, Mrs. Vera Ahlgren of Phoenix and Mrs. Alice Sexton of Arvada, Colorado; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 21, at 11 a.m. in Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley. Rev. Keith Scott officiated. Interment was in Pleasant view Cemetery at Hartley with Baumgarten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
